Corner Cottage

Our clients fell in love with the laid-back culture of downtown Rochester and the endearing charm of its neighborhoods, and wanted their ideal home to seamlessly blend with those local precedents. The variety of styles and unique characteristics of each home in its vicinity near downtown provided inspiration and an opportunity to create a unique story for itself. With a special emphasis on its front porch and entry, the home pays homage to the character and neighborly spirit of the downtown lifestyle that initially drew our clients to this property on its corner lot. A staple feature of downtown Rochester living, the wraparound porch serves as a key component that delivers maximum architectural interest. The porch helps to connect the personality of both corner elevations with their varied roof and window focal points, thoughtfully designed with the context of a corner lot in mind. Slightly tapered porch columns with subtle radiused capital details provide understated character. Cultured stone accents add interest and texture, while framing the porch windows comfortably on the wall above. Primary neutral tones add subtlety and contrast with the dark windows and roof planes.

In the backyard, united by an intimate courtyard patio, the detached garage echoes the character and detailing of the home. The paved outdoor space serves as an ideal location for hosting and entertaining during the warmer months, as an extension of the main interior living spaces, whether a small family gathering or a large group of friends. The design presents classic motifs paired with modern approaches for an understated elegance, resulting in a modest home with outstanding touches.
