114 W. 3rd Street in downtown Rochester, photographed circa 1903 —

Built in 1885, this true double-wythe masonry building was the original home of the Rochester Era Printing House, Rochester’s first successful newspaper. Original construction at the time was stated to be $1,000. In 1897, a small addition was added onto the back of the building to expand the shop for increased production needs.

After nearly 70 years in publication, the newspaper merged with the Rochester Clarion in 1943 and the Era name was discontinued. After the Era moved on, the building was used for various retail spaces and private apartments for 80 years, until it was bought by Oak Street Design in 2023 and opened as our fully renovated studio in 2026.
