House on the Hill

Abundant windows, splayed decorative wing walls, true limestone detailing, and a textural exterior bring elevated charm and transitional detailing to this home near downtown Birmingham. A classically refined double gable scheme provides stately appeal with the traditional, symmetrical forms of the facade. Tall windows create rhythm and verticality, while subtly recessed detailing in the stone window surrounds add interest and texture.

The entry sequence is gently framed by low, curved masonry walls that gesture inward, easing the transition from exterior to interior space. Inside the home, the main living spaces are designed to feel thoughtful and well-designed, each lending to its transitional charm. Intentional architectural detailing in each room makes each room feel unique, whether in the light-filled front office with its coffered ceiling and warm wood paneling, front sitting room with its subtle wainscoting and tray ceiling around the grand piano, or main level powder room with its textural finishes. Further into the main level public spaces, two generous islands anchor the heart of the open kitchen and provide abundant space for gathering and entertaining. A view along this central axis, the kitchen, dining, and great rooms are connected in one cohesive space, leading to the rear covered lanai space beyond. A dark walnut-stained staircase leads upstairs to the private areas, with their own refined finishes that complement the continued transitional styling.
